art museum again and drama plans

I went to the art museum to see the Pompeii exhibit again today. Real frescoes from the town. It’s just incredible. The paintings that were in houses are there for me to look at. Sean, Fox, Abby, and Bede went with me. I was on Bede assistance because he can bump right into people without noticing, and he’s Big. He really enjoyed it.

Tomorrow is the first day for the haunted house camp at the drama program the kids go to. Since delta came to town we have stayed away from the joint, but it peaked and has been declining for several weeks now, and the kids are all vaxed (who can be) so I feel like it’s ok. Cases are lower now than they were in January when I let them attend with no vaccine. I guess it’s all measured risk. I will get the vaccine for Dorothy and Clementine, ages 9 and 7, when it’s available. They aren’t going to the camp anyway since it’s 10 and up.

See the trouble with blogging is I start to bore myself. And then I think of the audience and, gosh, if I’m bored you must be, soooo, are we done here? But maybe that’s not the case.

I’m proceeding along the path of an ADHD diagnosis for myself. So far I’ve taken a test that was hard to do because it took forever and my brain was very gooey by the end. But they won’t let me see my results until I talk to a psych which is so unfair. That’s in a few weeks. If I do have ADHD, which I think I do (I have two kids dxed with it and two who likely have it but are undiagnosed) then it will be a nice explanation for many things in my life.

Boring myself again. Best to all five of you who read the blog <3

Mr. Sir

Clementine says she is Mister Sir, no relation to the Holes character.

Week 6 roundup.

Thinking of dropping the lab science J entirely. Gil is doing Miller and Levine Biology and it’s kind of a lot.

Dorothy loves reading history with me. Makes my heart swell when the third grader asks for school reading. This year it’s Child’s History of the World and an Usborne history encycloprdia of some kind.

We finally got through the latest pronouns lesson in Visual Latin! Like to have killed us. Sheesh.

week 5 round up

The school year is going well so far. I gave up on the daily record keeping, as you can see. But a general update now and then is probably manageable, yeah?

We are on week 5. Changes so far:

  • Gil is home instead of at HLS. It turns out I don’t like to share educational responsibility like a hybrid school entails, and the workload was too much. And I don’t like Memoria Press as much as Sonlight/Bookshark. Gil is happy, I’m happy, I presume the HLS folks are happy.
  • Switched Trix to Saxon from Teaching Textbooks. We’ll see. I may do the same for Gloria.
  • We are not doing NWO drama this semester because the delta variant freaked me out. So we can use Thursday as our off day and we don’t have to scramble to get to a regular Thursday appointment. I like that so much I may switch them to Thursday drama when they do go back.
  • We dropped First Form because Visual Latin 2 is much more intense than Visual Latin 1. I think that’s mostly because we coasted on muscle memory for a bunch of it and never actually memorized stuff. But we are doing Lingua Latina still, a new chapter every 2 weeks. I don’t think there’s a better way to learn Latin than Lingua Latina.
  • I’m going to have Gil do Biology alongside the Science J lab. The lab is one day a week.

High points:

  • Perry got some Crayon Rocks and he can suddenly draw! And write!
  • Perry is 100% diaper free!
  • Dorothy is reading with more confidence
  • Clementine too
  • Trix and Glo are enjoying the Eastern Hemisphere and have finished several novels
  • Gilbert is moving along and is in the second literature selection. He’s also reading the Lord of the Rings.

I guess that’s all.
